A wonderful dive buddy, mentor and cracking bloke to chat with over a few cold beers. Will be missed by many near and far.

My dear friend, you are sorely missed! I have many wonderful memories with you, pretending to crash in a van in Malaysia, then actually crashing in a van in Malaysia, sharing a few cold ones over a Braai but perhaps my favourite memory of you is when you got dressed up as Santa and made us all sit on your knee at Christmas one year!
You loved your family and friends with a passion and always went above and beyond for them and we all loved you all the more for that!
    Rest well buddy!

Dearest Rob will be remembered always by my girls and I. A genuinely kind hearted, generous, loving and very supportive man. I am hugely grateful for the friendship, understanding, love and support given to Neville. Rob and Stacy both gave so much to us and we made some special memories. RIP Robbo. Xxx

Unfortunately I won’t be able to share with you live but I’m there with you all in spirit. Rob remains a special friend – so easy to catch up with despite intervening years. He inspired me in so many ways and was always supportive. He shared so much of himself with so many people and I’m forever grateful I was one of those people. Fly high, Rob. All my love to those that will miss him immensely. Xxx

Big Rob, a name often used at church and in our friendship circle in Hong Kong, as there were two Robs.
Soon after joining the church, Rob was asked to share a little about himself and his new found relationship with Jesus.
True to form, Rob gave a very entertaining account sprinkled with a few “F bombs!” From that day on he won the hearts of everyone at church, including my husband and I. Niel and Rob were close mates during his years in HK, today they are enjoying each others company in Heaven, waiting for the rest of us to join them.
Rob was one of a kind, and I feel so very blessed to have known him.

Rob Gordon will be sadly missed. Even though he has been away from Zim for so long, we have happy and very fond members of the vet and funny, clever, kind and generous spirited human being that he was. He who dubbed our strange rescue dog Gonzo, Gonzo the Great. Our art and plans and lives he supported and encouraged. One of those special souls that will never be forgotten. Our love to his family and all who knew him. Sian Brown, Richard Hoare, Scott Brown, Jane Hunt…. and all of the rest of us from the Zim era. Along with the appreciation of the myriad animal family members that he treated with such care and compassion.
    Go well, Rob.
    Thank you.

First met Rob back in 1981 at Maritzburg Varsity & he was our “Dad” & friend. So many fun times both there & back home in Zim. A big gap has been left in the lives of so many. Big hugs Shamwari

Robbo, remembered with much love and affection.
Met Rob at UZ Vet science when he was in the first intake, in 1985.
He was the most fun person you could ever meet, with the most amazing sense of humour.
He worked hard and played hard, and I was so privileged that we became really good friends.
It was through Rob that I met his wonderful sister Lizzie. Through Liz I met my beloved husband John, and so a great and lasting friendship began.
I am so grateful for all the wonderful memories that we all made together.
You were a wonderful caring and loving person Rob, you will be terribly missed, and never forgotten and keep us laughing for ever. I’m sure you and John will be be having a great catch up. Rest in peace dearest friend.

Rob was such a big part of our lives at Braeside and we became close shamwaris – from the sunrise coffees on the verandha to riding through the bush on Rory’s ponies and paddling home with picanins in a broken river ranger on the farm dam. We will never forget the ‘op on the ellie in the garden’ which was a pioneering procedure which Rob never shied away from. We had many adventures with a thousand happy and cherished memories from Zim to Hong Kong and Manila and finally on a trip to NZ. What a huge loss to his friends and family who were his life. Rob has left a legacy to be proud of and his work in his veternary field which included a vast array of domestic pets and farm animals to african wildlife was legendary. RIP shamwari – you are missed but will never be forgotten.

We met Rob in Hong Kong at South China Diving Club, and loved his sense of humour. Lost touch when we moved to NZ, only to find he’d also moved here too. We’d planned to go to Hamilton to meet up, but sadly left it too late. A bigger than life character who will be greatly missed.

The Gordons and The Rosses have been the BEST of friends – even from before Robert was born – and we are SO sorry to hear of your loss.

Robert was my godson and the SWEETEST natured of all the children. I was so touched when he – and Liz – contacted me for a recent big birthday celebration.

We have so many happy memories of our times together – braiivleis-es at each others homes, yachting at Lake Mcilwaine, playing ‘stick-in-the-mud’, fly-fishing in Inyanga.

I just WISH I’d had the chance to tell Rob that I FINALLY forgive him for accidentally smashing my best china! He was as enthusiastic and friendly – and clumsy – as the family dog, Tom Dooley!

Our thoughts are with dear Liz and all of Rob’s family

My most vivid memory of Rob was doing a loud John Cleese style, step by step explanation of doing a PD on a cow in a crowded bar to our vast amusement. until we realised that the bar had fallen silent, not understanding that the other people didnt know he was talking about an animal. MHSRIP
