Jim loved his kids and grandkids above all else..whenever meeting for a beer a chat or an insurance meeting (he did not like insurance!!!)Jim always said”If the kids need help please jump in and help and keep me in the loop””I never had to but Jim was always concerned about Lisa and Dave..A legend…Such a pity our plans to get together next year won’t happened..ALegend!
Uncle Jim , that’s how you are saved in my contact list. You and Nats have always been my family on the Isle of Man for so long, so many good memories, so many laughs, never forget our toasties saga, still laugh everytime I think about it, our bbq’s sorry braai’s on Laxey beach, all the Shabeen memories and not forgetting your exclusive cooking shows.Jim thank you so much for all the support and help and company over the years, you will never be forgotten , your legacy will live on forever in your wonderful family and friends. May you rest in peace.
To Kayla and I , Jim will always be larger than life. Jim always made us feel so welcome whenever we visited him and Nats, and the times we spent with him were always such fun, lots of laughs, and he always spoke of his family – his family he was SO proud of. We have such amazing memories of Jim, and our love and thoughts are with Nat’s and his whole family. We will never forget you Jim, RIP special man xxx
Condolences to Jim’s family. So many memories and lots of laughs shared at Alex and here in the UK. Will miss the long fun filled chats. Farewell Jim will always remember you and travel stories and the laughter. Julie and Bernard Georgiou
Dear Lisa, Dave and family.
Jim, a true gentleman to us on the occasions we met him. His reflection shines through his children and so his legacy lives on. Our prayers are with you during this time as you adjust to not having his presence in person, but knowing his spirit is guiding you through the remainder of your lives. John and Sally Dennis
Dear Nats, Lisa, Dave and all the family
We are sending you all so much love right now. Jim was and will always be a huge part of my life. He always had us laughing. My fondest childhood holidays were always coming out to Zimbabwe to visit he was always the fun loving person (even when he tossed our box of chocolates all over the room laughing lol) he will be truly missed by all that knew him. And absolute legend. May he rest in peace watching down over you all xxx
Condolences to Uncle Jim’s family and friends and especially Aunty Natalie and my dad Owen Smit, we will miss you uncle Jim
Well Mr Bass you will be missed. Lots and lots of lovely memories with you. From holidays in Zimbabwe and Durban, to us rent our 1st home off of you in rochester. Also you coming over wondering why there was blood leaking from your suitcase that would be the meat you had brought over .
Hopefully you and my mum are having a catch up
Love Becci and Danny xxx
Uncle Jim was a great man, one who lived life fully, and had many achievements. He would always have a great story to share which would always put a smile on my face. I have many fond memories of Uncle Jim from my early childhood until now. He was a role model, a friend, and one in a million. I will miss you deeply Uncle Jim. May you rest in peace.
Sending our condolences to the family.

Fly high Jim, fond memories of many quality times together, from racing horses at Borrowdale Park, to many beers and piri piri chicken at Vic Bar down Point Road in Durban with our good mate Gareth Bruss. RIP
It is suddenly very quiet here in the Isle of Man.
Our friend Jim was the epitome of ‘unique ‘. You can’t make a Jim.
Jim loved people and their company and was equally happy to chat to the top of the tree as those unlucky to be at the bottom.
I learned an awful lot from Jim (most of it awful).
Uncle Jim, What a character, a great inspiration to many, very shrewd business Man,also a very Kind person, but whenever we spoke had a great sense of humor, never going to forget the 6 Golf Tees, Beautiful service,

Mr JR Bass (we called him Sekuru being our boss Dave’s father) he was such a caring and selfless person. He touched everyone around him. I came to know him because I worked for Bass Plant Hire. He nurtured my strengths and skills. I testify that I am what I am today because he gave me an opportunity.
You will always be remembered in our lives . Rest well
